Independent hearing commissioner Wendy Baker has given consent to Power Farming Holdings Ltd to remove two monkey puzzle trees, subject to conditions.

Conditions include a requirement for the company to provide the Gore District Council with two seedlings germinated from seeds collected from the two monkey puzzle trees.

These seeds are to be planted on Council reserve with a plaque describing the history and significance of the trees. The plaque is to be funded by Power Farming Holdings.

Previously

The Council has received a resource consent application from Power Farming Holdings Ltd to establish a farm machinery business at 40 Charlton Lane, adjacent to State Highway 1 at the southern entrance to Gore.

The applicant is applying for land use consent to locate a farm machinery sales business with an on site workshop and part division in the Industrial Zone. Consent is further sought to remove two trees, listed as Notable Trees in the District Plan, from the site.

One large existing shed near to the southern boundary is to remain, all other existing buildings on site will be removed.

The main building will be located centrally on the site with access off Charlton Lane. It's proposed to have 32 car parks . Hours of operation will be Monday to Friday 7:30am to 5:30pm and Saturday 7:30am to 12 noon. The business will be closed on Sundays and public holidays.


Making a Submission

Submissions must be received by 5:00pm Wednesday 3 August.

Any person may make a submission on the application, but a person who is a trade competitor of the applicant may do so only if that person is directly affected by an effect of the activity to which the application relates that:

  • adversely affects the environment, and
  • does not relate to trade competition or the effects of trade competition.
